Nizamabad: As part of the 28th National Road Safety Week celebrations, Commissioner of Police Karitkeya and Nizamabad Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy flagged off a rally here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner of Police urged motorists not to drive vehicles after consuming liquor as that would lead to fatal accidents.

He said that the entire family would be plunged into grief if any of their members die in road mishaps.

Kartikeya said that several families have lost their bread winners when they perished in road mishaps.

He said that it was unfortunate that people were indulged in drunken driving and violating safety norms. He advised those driving two-wheelers to wear helmets without fail.

He said that letters were being sent to college managements not to allow students or staff into the college if they fail to wear helmets.

The Police Commissioner of Police appealed to the public to extend their cooperation to the police and maintain friendly relations with them.

He said that the traffic police would organise awareness camps for autorickshaw and truck drivers. Similarly, they would also hold counseling sessions for college students on drunken driving. Stickers on road safety norms would be attached on wine shops and bars, he added.

Nizamabad Assistant Commissioner of Police Anand Kumar, AR ACP Syed Anwar Hussain, Excise Superintendent of Police Gangaram, Special Branch Inspector Ch Venkanna and others were present.
