Decks cleared for MMTS Phase II
The Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) Phase II would get operational from December 2017 and the 75-km project would be commissioned in its entirety by 2018, said SCR new general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav.

Briefing the media at Charlapalli station here on Tuesday during a media tour between Secunderabad-Charlapalli-Ghatkesar, he said the completion of the MMTS Phase II is a top priority along with safety of rail passengers.
About 45-km length with 15-km track linking has been completed.The contentious 3.85 km defence land issue at Suchitra centre and 0.20 km defence land at Bhudevi Nagar-Ammuguda is sorted out and the Local Military Authority is waiting for an official letter from the Central government. With land acquisition in major corridors complete and the remaining land issues at the end stage, the MMTS Phase II work is going to speed up.
In December, Telapur-Ramchandrapuram corridor would start operations followed by Secunderabad-Moula Ali-Ghatkesar, said the general manager.
“The connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is under discussion with the Ministry of Civil Aviation. We are hopeful that it would come through,” said the general manager. Out of the 10 acres land to be acquired, seven acres has already been acquired and the balance land is in advance stage of acquisition process, said Yadav.
The MMTS- Phase II services will cover Secunderabad-Moula Ali-Ghatkesar, Secunderabad-Bolarum-Medchal, Falaknuma-Umdanagar-Shamshabad Airport (Railways submitted sketch showing terminal station and consent from GMR is awaited), Moula Ali-Sanatnagar, Moula Ali-Malkajgiri-Sitafalmandi and Telapur-Ramchandrapuram stretches.
Five new stations
Five new stations are being constructed on Moula Ali-Sanatnagar route at Ferozguda, Suchitra Centre, Bhudevi Nagar, Neredmet and Moula Ali HB Colony. Three stations, namely Telapur, BHEL and Ramchandrapuram will be restored on Telapur-Ramchandrapuram section.
The MMTS-Phase II project was sanctioned in 2012-13 at an estimated cost of Rs 817 crore. The project is being done on cost sharing basis with the state government contributing 2/3rd of the cost. Till date, the Telangana government released just Rs 60 crore. Railway officials said that they are in talks with the state government for the release of Rs 160 crore in this financial year.
New terminal at Cherlapally
A new terminal at Cherlapally has been sanctioned and would be developed at a cost of Rs 80 crore. Six new platforms would be developed. The SCR general manager said the Railways has 50 acres of land and has put in a request for 150 acres from the state government. He met the Telangana State Chief secretary last week in this regard.
