Telangana Budget draws big building plans

Top sources in the Roads and Buildings department told The Hans India that the state government has decided to take up construction activity in a big way as part of improving infrastructure facilities in next financial year.
Nearly Rs 2,000 crore is likely to be allocated for the construction of these three important buildings in the new budget proposal. Following demonetisation, the state government had put on hold the earlier proposal to construct a new secretariat.
In 2016-17 financial year, the government had allocated Rs 50 crore to prepare detailed project report (DPR) to take up new secretariat works at Chest hospital in the city.
However, the proposal was finally dropped and it was decided to construct a new one in the existing premises. Nearly Rs 300 crore is required to take up this project.
The construction of integrated Collector offices bringing nearly 30 departments under a single roof would be taken up at the cost of about Rs 35 crore each in a sprawling 25 acres of land. Collectors have been instructed to identify suitable land in 28 districts.
Nalgonda, Hyderabad and Sangareddy collectorates were already developed. Official said that the government shortlisted three types of building plans. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would finalise the plans soon.
It would require nearly Rs 1,000 crore to construct the buildings and the same would be allocated in 2017-18 budget, the source said.
The government also is keen to take up the construction of ‘posh’ residential colonies for IAS and IPS officers. Though the government had earmarked Rs 20 crore, it could not take up the project in 2016-17 as it could not identify suitable land.
The proposed villa-type houses would be equipped with high-end facilities, including solar system for streetlighting and other infrastructure facilities.
The government is also examining the possibility of constructing a modern guest house as the inflow of the delegates from other states and from New Delhi has increased during the recent months.
The existing guest houses like Lake View, Dilkusha and Manjeera guest houses have become old and lack modern facilities.
