Candle light protest to oppose road closure in Secunderabad Cantonment
Close to 1,000 residents of Federation of Northeast Colonies took out a candlelight march from Dr A S Rao Nagar grounds to Neredmet on Valentine’s Day to register their opposition to the closure of 12 roads in the Secunderabad Cantonment, especially Alwal, Bolarum, Yapral areas.

This is the second year in a row that Open Secunderabad Cantonment Area All Roads (OSCAR) held a candle march on February 14 to protest against the closure of roads by the Local Military Authority (LMA) in Secunderabad Cantonment.
Representatives of OSCAR have been claiming that the LMA closed public roads without following the procedure specified in Section 258 of the Cantonment Act 2006. S Chandrashekar of OSCAR says, “The closure of roads affects one-sixth of the population.”
The Telangana Industrialists Welfare Federation, ECIL Employees Co-Op House Construction Society Ltd, Kushaiguda Notified Municipal Industrial Area Service Society members too joined the march.
Meanwhile, the LMA and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) started a survey for developing an alternate link road between Safilguda and RK Puram-AOC Centre leading up to Marredpally last week.
The Gough Road would remain open till May 31 and the government is making efforts to complete the survey and prepare a plan for alternate roads.
OSCAR however, wants the LMA to re-open all the 12 roads that were closed for public over the years and has been citing the Allahabad High Court order of November 11, 2015 that ruled that the roads be re-opened in Allahabad.
