Sircilla: Breaking away from routine stuff of offering flowers, bouquets and exchange of pleasantries with the women that typically mark the International Women’s Day celebrations, Rajanna-Sircilla District Collector Krishna Bhaskar has on Wednesday invited Joint Collector Sheik Yasmeen Basha to don the role of Collector for the day.

The idea which is unique in its kind was sprouted a few days ago in the run up to Women’s Day. The brainchild behind the idea was Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao, who wanted to do something unique that makes women feel proud.

“It turned out really well,” Krishna Bhaskar told The Hans India, stating that the gesture would also send right signals that women are half the sky. “Today’s meeting was chaired by Sheik Yasmeen Basha in which all the district officials including myself participated,” he said.

The meeting discussed about the land allocation to various developmental programmes and the revenue matters besides the scheduled visit of BC Commission to the district, he said, stating that it was business as usual in the Collectorate.

Boasting a huge smile on her face, Sheik Yasmeen Basha said: “It was a great day not just for me but to the womankind. I feel deeply honored.” The administration has organised several events on the occasion including felicitations to employees who excelled in their duty besides awareness programmes about women rights etc., she said.

It’s learnt that initially the administration wanted to give full charge to the Joint Collector Sheik Yasmeen Basha to act as the collector for one day but fearing legal tangles, they made her honorary collector. It’s also learnt that the administration has also tried to replicate the plan in all departments of the district.

But it didn’t work out due to combination of officials. It may be mentioned here that to carry the plan, the head of the department needs to be a male and his deputy a female.
