In an informal chat with media, Minister for Energy G Jagdish Reddy on Thursday, in a lighter vein, said people were watching more of AP Assembly live on TV rather than TS Assembly.
Legislators, both men and women, and even Ministers in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh have forgotten their stature and are fighting against each other and even are resorting to jostling at media points. The Opposition there is not behaving in a responsible manner and the ruling party too does not want to give up one-upmanship.
Recalling the incident that took place in the Assembly on Wednesday wherein Jagdish Reddy, while replying to discussion on demands for grants, used the word ‘Marwadi’ for the Central government, said it was an unintended remark.
Realising the mistake, he said he had offered to withdraw the word, but by that time the damage was done and the BJP members rushed into the well. Hence, he said he voluntarily offered his apology as soon as the House met for the day and urged the Speaker to remove the word from records.
The BJP floor leader G Kishen Reddy also offered his apology for having rushed to the podium of the house. Kishen Reddy said that during his career of 13 years as a legislator he had never gone into the well, but on Wednesday in a fit of anger he stormed into the well. He said it was not right on his part to have behaved so and offered his apology to the Chair and the House.
This act was promptly appreciated by the Minister for Legislative Affairs T Harish Rao. Such type of acts by the ruling party and Opposition help in enhancing the prestige of the legislature.
But on the contrary, the Opposition members are seen rushing to the podium and stall the proceedings every now and then. The ruling party does not take any measures to resolve the issue and ensure smooth functioning of the House and utilise the time for discussions.
On the other hand Ministers and MLA both men and women jostle at media point and throw challenges and counter challenges at each other. Though budget session of both the States began simultaneously, here detailed discussion was taking place on the budget while there the members are locking horns on trivial issues. “People have sent us to Assembly to resolve their problems and not to fight with each other,” he said.
He said here the Opposition thinks twice before creating ruckus as they know that if they indulge in any such act they would be suspended from the house. But there though the session is coming to an end, so far no member was suspended. He recalled how the TDP members A Revanth Reddy and S Venkata Veeraiah were suspended from the Assembly here for showing disrespect to the Chair on the very first day, he added.
