Hyderabad: Taking potshots at the BJP for politicising the proposal to provide reservation to the Muslims in education and government jobs, IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday accused the saffron party of misleading the people with regard to 12 per cent reservations to Muslims.

He said the Chief Minister himself had stated on the floor of the Assembly that the reservations would be on the basis of backwardness and not religion or community. But still the BJP continues to level allegations against the government.

Interacting with the media in the Assembly lobbies, the minister said the number of BCs in Telangana was high and hence the government was working out various schemes and policies for their welfare and development. “The Centre should understand this and allow the state government to increase the reservations on the lines of Tamil Nadu. The states should have power to take key decisions on such issues to protect the interests of the people,” he said.

Asked about the process of delimitation, he exuded confidence that Assembly segments will be increased through delimitation process before 2019 elections.

He slammed Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and other Opposition leaders for obstructing the irrigation projects and developmental works in the state by approaching the courts. It is a matter of shame that Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy filed false cases and stalled irrigation projects. As a result many project works got delayed.

He said despite all efforts made by opposition to create hurdles, the government had successfully conducted the budget session in meaningful manner and had taken up discussion on various issues. It had also debated the budget proposals at length.

Stating that the Opposition parties will continue to be in Opposition after 2019 also, KTR said the schemes introduced by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had created confidence among the people. The recent decision to revive rural economy has become a hit with the people and we shall deliver what we have promised, he added.
