Hyderabad: Expressing concern over the health hazards being posed to residents near Hussainsagar nala, the Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) on Monday demanded that the Pollution Control Board (PCB) take steps to control release of chemical effluents into open nalas.

In a representation to the higher officials of PCB, Greater Hyderabad City Central Committee secretary M Srinivas said chemical effluents from Jeedimetla and Patancheru industrial areas were directly released into the nala on the pretext of damaged pipelines.

He said the residents on the bank of nala which connects to Amberpet’s sewerage treatment plant were facing adverse effects like inflammation of eyes and sleeplessness.

“The effluents are being directly released into the nala at Lower Tank Bund near Marriott hotel without considering its hazardous effects on residents. Not only the impact is more visible now, even the groundwater got contaminated,” he said.
