Hyderabad: The management of Dargah Yousufain, one of the most revered shrines in both Telugu states is in thick of the cloud over allegations of misappropriation of funds.

The Dargah's attached properties comprise 30,834 sq yards and is a major asset for Wakf Board with huge revenue collections. The current Mutawalli (Manager) was appointed on July 29 last year. Some of the acts of Mutawalli, like using duplicate hundies in the place of original ones, came to the notice of Wakf Board. In the first week of May, the Wakf Board took control of all the 11 hundis placed in the premises of the Dargah.

According to official sources, amongst the 11 hundis of Wakf Board, the hundis numbering 1 & 6 were earmarked for maintenance of the Dargah. When the officials deputed from Wakf Board inspected the premises, they were shocked to find that there were two hundis with same number (1). “The one which was the property of Wakf was placed in a corner and its replica was positioned at prominent place,” sources said.

When the issue was reported to the CEO of the Wakf Board, they ordered the senior officials to take control of the issue. When the Wakf Board authorities began counting of the collections in 11 hundis on May 5, they found that the two hundis earmarked for managing Dargah got more than Rs 5.5 lakh in contrast to Rs 4 lakh in all the remaining 9 hundis.

When the officially designated caretaker took up the issue, he was threatened on Whatsapp. The things turned to worse on Wednesday, when the office of Wakf within the premises of Dargah was locked up by the Mutawalli.

It may be recalled that appointment of Syed Hasan Shabbir Hussaini as the Mutawalli by Wakf Board was shrouded in controversy, as he belonged to Karnataka state and also enjoyed his position as Mutawalli of Rouza-e-khurd also known as Chhota Rouza in Gulbarga.

The Mutawalli and his son Yadullah Hussain are collecting rents, but rarely available in the City. The maintenance has turned worst during the past one year,” added the source.

It is believed that Hyderabad MP and also one of board members, Asaduddin Owaisi would attending the next board meeting to be held in the last week of this month, where a decision would be taken on the term of the Mutawalli.
