Hyderabad: Despite many potholes in every nook and corner of the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) claimed that it had identified only 423 potholes in the civic body limits. The civic body officials asserted that the GHMC has filled as many as 95,800 potholes out of total 96,223 identified since June last year and spend about Rs 1,550 to fill each pothole.
According to the data collected from GHMC, it had filled 10,852 potholes and 184 potholes are yet to be attended in the East Zone. The corporation also filled 16,918 in the south zone, 28,471 in the central zone, 8,505 in the west zone, 17,627 in the north zone and 13,427 in major road development circles (MRD 1 and MRD 2).
The civic body spent Rs 15 crore to fill potholes across the city. Roads in several busy stretches including, Panjagutta, Nampally, Begumpet, Himayathnagar, Adikmet, Puranapool, Jumerath Bazar, Karwan, Masab Tank, Hussaini Alam, Kukatpally and other areas remain severely damaged.
R Praveen Suri, administrative officer working in a private hospital said, "The civic body had recently laid a road at the busy Begumpet stretch. The quality of road laid can be questioned as it was damaged due to the moderate rainfall we had". He said travelling from Panjagutta junction to Secunderabad had turned a night mare, as he has to dodge several potholes and undulations.
Yousuf Pasha, a private school teacher said that he was a recent victim to a pothole at Mastan Nagar in Jubilee Hills road no 45. Pasha said during a rainy day he could not trace a water filled pothole and slipped into it and damaged his two-wheeler. He said the road was laid recently in February and it was damaged within a month.
Pasha said that he had also registered a complaint with the civic body but the officials turned a blind eye towards the problem.
