Hyderabad: As part of providing double-bedroom housing facility to the poor in the twin cities, Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Monday laid foundation stone for the construction of 162 houses at a cost of Rs 14 crore at Potti Sri Ramulu Nagar and Sri Lanka Basti in Bansilalpet area in his Sanathanagar constituency here.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the aim of the government was to provide spacious two-bedroom houses to the people, who languished in small houses and huts. Telangana is the only State in the country that offered two-bedroom houses for the poor free of cost, he claimed.

All the eligible people would get these houses free of cost from the government and there was no need of panic or doubts about it, he said, adding that about Rs 9 lakh was being spent for each house.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao wanted to provide the double-bedroom facility to help maintain self-respect of the poor in the State. “So far, the poor and the downtrodden have been residing at narrow and congested houses with meagre facilities and spending some money for housing purpose.

Now, they do not need to pay a single rupee and can own new double-bedroom houses with all facilities,” he said. The houses are being planned to be completed in 12 months and handed them over to the beneficiaries. The Minister also cited that for the first time, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government had set a record and created history by constructing 400 units of double-bedroom houses at IDH Colony in his constituency.

“We have already begun this facility at GYR Compound, Banda Maisamma Basti and will soon start construction of double-bedroom houses at Hamali Basti, Chacha Nehru Nagar, Ramaswamy Compound, Ambedkar Nagar and so on, he added. He also appealed to the residents not to get cheated by middlemen, who may try to dupe them or deceive in the name of providing houses. “Transparent method must be followed to get their details and surveys must be conducted for three to four times to identify the actual beneficiaries,” he said.
