Hyderabad: Senior advocate in the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad, Desai Prakash Reddy, is the new Advocate General for the State of Telangana. The government has issued a G.O. to this effect on Monday. Prakash Reddy succeeds K Ramakrishna Reddy who resigned from the post after completing three years as the first AG.

Hailing from Amarchinta village in Wanaparthy district (formerly Mahabubnagar district), Prakash Reddy was born to Desai Muralidhar Reddy and Anasuya Devi in 1955. He completed his law degree from Osmania University in 1977 and enrolled in the Andhra Pradesh Bar Council.

He worked in the office of senior advocate K Pratap Reddy from 1977 to 1986, gaining experience in various aspects of law. From 1986 to 1990, he practised independently in the High Court at Hyderabad. He later moved to Delhi and practised in the Supreme Court of India from 1990 to 1998. During this period he worked with Justice Konda Madhav Reddy during 1990-92.

Moving back to the High Court, he was appointed as Additional Advocate General for the composite State of Andhra Pradesh in May 1998 and continued in that post till May 2004.

He was designated as senior counsel in 2000. Prakash Reddy was elected as the president of the composite Andhra Pradesh High Court Bar Association. He had also worked actively in the movement for formation of separate Telangana state. He defended many activists legally when they were arrested.
