Adilabad: Residents of Mokra in Ichoda mandal have planted over 5,000 saplings and decided to nurse them as the Village Development Committee announced an incentive of Rs 5,000 per year per plant for nursing them.

Normally Harita Haram programme gives wide publicity to plant saplings but forgets about their nursing. But the Village Development Committee announced incentives for those, who takes care of the saplings after planting.

Motivated by the incentive, fifth class students of a government school in Mokra planted over 200 saplings on their school premises and in the compound of their homes. A student Ranjit said that the committee’s offer had motivated them to plant saplings in their school premises.

The School Headmaster Surekha said each student had planted a sapling with enthusiasm and watering them two times a day as lured by the committee’s offer. The residents of Mokra have been implementing the greenery programme with a missionary zeal.
