Hyderabad: The decision of the Government to knock on the doors of the Apex court against GST slab on irrigation projects has come in for sharp criticism. The TDP Telangana State unit, the TPCC and the State BJP charged the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of taking a ‘U’ turn on the issue.

TDP Telangana State working president A Revanth Reddy on Sunday alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, after the introduction of GST, had stated that there would be no loss to the exchequer and in fact claimed that it would benefit the State. But, now he (KCR) has changed his stand and is making contradictory remarks by stating that he would knock on the doors of the Supreme Court on GST slab on irrigation projects in Telangana.

Similarly, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, on Sunday, deplored the remarks of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao over GST on State irrigation projects.

Speaking to media persons, the Union Minister said the decision of 12 per cent GST on irrigation projects in Telangana State was not a unilateral decision and clarified that the Union government has taken the GST decision only after several round of talks with all the States. The GST came into existence only after consultations with State governments, he said.

Finding fault with the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who extended his support to GST ahead of others to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for criticising the Centre now, Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said that the Congress party has been saying this right from the beginning.

When the Congress MLAs mentioned about it, the Chief Minister found fault with them and now, in a volte face, he was criticising the Prime Minister. He alleged that KCR had proved that he was “An opportunistic politician.”

The TPCC vice-president Mallu Ravi asked KCR, who used to criticise the Opposition parties as devils whenever they agitated against the government, should now wage movement against the Centre on GST.
