Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has claimed that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was a role model for the country in implementing measures for the welfare of journalists.

Speaking after inaugurating the new office of Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ) at Adarsh Nagar on Friday, Harish Rao said that the State Government has established a fund of Rs. 100 crore for the welfare of journalist and so far release Rs. 60 crore for various activities. He also assured the land for housing would be allotted to journalists after the disposal of case in the Supreme Court.

Addressing the gathering, Health Minister Dr. Lakshma Reddy said that the government has introduced a new health scheme for the journalists and their family members wherein no limit has been set for cost of treatment. He said a Wellness Centre was also established for journalists on par with government employees.

The function was also addressed by Press Academy chairman Allam Narayan, MLA Srinivas Goud, DGP Anurag Sharma, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy and others.
