Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday clarified that it has nothing against any individual or ICFA (Indian Council of Food and Agriculture) as an organisation which had conferred the prestigious Global Leadership Award-2017 on the Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao. But it wanted to counter and expose the attempt of the government to gain undue political advantage and cover up its faulty policies.

In reply to a letter from ICFA on the comments he had made against the award as the chief spokesperson of TPCC, Dasoju Sravan said the prime motive behind the press conference was to highlight misleading campaign initiated by Governor of Telangana through his press-note congratulating the Chief Minister that the Government of India conferred him with prestigious Global Leadership Award-2017, while ICFA is a private organisation. Further, the Governor’s press release mentioned that it is a recognition of K Chandrashekar Rao’s strenuous efforts and his devotion for the development of agriculture, while the grass root reality is completely contrasting, he said.

Sravan said, ``You would appreciate that your claims of being a national level advisory organisation on par with the government of India agencies and an organisation which has no links to any private organisations such as seeds companies or agri-business companies, may not stand scrutiny.

It is not clear as to how ICFA claims to be an apex body in the country for agriculture policy research, trade, technology and farmers services, While the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is known as the apex body for coordinating, guiding and managing research and education in agriculture including horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in the entire country, with 101 ICAR institutes and 71 agricultural universities spread across the country, he added.

Sravan said TPCC questions and seeks to know from ICFA that which are those policies of KCR had impacted millions of farmers and what are those policies and agricultural reforms that have impressed them and their awards committee to grant global agriculture leadership award to KCR.

He said the ICFA letter mentioned that no one from ICFA visited Telangana in the last two years. As per our knowledge even Prof. M S Swaminathan, Chairman of National Awards committee has not visited Telangana in the recent past. Hence, we request you clarify how could any jury or organisation judge the credentials of Chief Minister of State of Telangana without making any field visits and without interacting with any relevant stake holders, he said.
