Hyderabad: In a welcome augury, people from Hyderabad are exploring other districts of Telangana as many a hidden jewel, be it waterfalls, caves and tourist spots are being discovered. The Telangana Government too is keen on developing places hitherto not on the tourist map.

The latest effort is to develop Jangaon, which is bound to attract weekend tourists from Hyderabad and elsewhere, especially techies. There is history writ large in every nook and cranny of Jangoan. Each of the six places marked for development has its own charm for its handicrafts, people and historical value. Just 90 km from Hyderabad, Jangaon which was once a sought-after place that attracted people from far will once again brim with tourist activity.

The Government of Telangana sanctioned Rs 40 crore for integrated development of cultural and heritage tourism circuit. Speaking to The Hans India, Tourism Secretary B Venkatesam said, “There are majestic forts, temples, caves and birth places of eminent poets such as Sri Palakurthy Somanandha Kavi and Bammera Pothana in the circuit.

An integrated development plan has been chalked out for development.”Pembarthi known for brassware and artefacts that supports more than 500 artisans would be developed with good roads and Palakurthy, the birth place of Sri Palakurthy Somanandha Kavi in 12 century who is renowned for his epic ‘Basava Purana’ would become major tourist attractions as the Lord Siva and Vishnu temples would be restored.

Caves on a hillock nearby too would be made accessible for tourists. The village of Valmidi, believed to be the place where Valmiki the author of epic Ramayana resided and Bammera village, the place where Bammera Pothana was born and known for his translation of the epic ‘Srimad Bhagvatam’ from Sanskrit to Telugu are expected to become attractions as the tourism department is planning to give a facelift to these places.

Palakurthy module
The department has set aside Rs 10 crore to develop Palakurthy with a 4-module development plan. The Palakurthy temple will get a complete makeover with illumination of the cave as well as the temple, beautification of the ghat road and adding amenities at a cost of Rs 350 crore. The remaining Rs 650 crore would be used for Palakurthy Somanatha temple, Kalyana Mandapam and Somanatha Samadhi.

Forts under spotlight
Zaffergadh fort is to get a facelift with Rs 6 crore marked for restoration of the fort wall, landscaping and site development which will include tourist amenities and development of approach road. The Khila Shahpur fort too would be restored at a cost of Rs 450 crore with an open-air amphitheatre that would be developed at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Part of the development plans includes grand entrance pylons at Jangoan and Ghanpur.
