Hyderabad: The Opposition on Wednesday demanded that the Governor E S L Narasimhan scrap GO 39 issued for the constitution of Rythu Samanvaya Committees (Farmers Coordination Committees). The GO 39 is issued for the benefit of the farming community in the State.

An all-party delegation comprising leaders from the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum opposing GO 39 to create farmers committee from village, District and State level and the proposal to involve MLAs in survey.

The members said they had tried to explain the Governor as to why the GO should be withdrawn. It is learnt that the Governor grilled the leaders on the issue and wanted to know why they were opposing it. The Opposition told him that they have no objection if the survey was done by officials. MLAs should not be involved in it, they added.

The leaders alleged that the government neglected the farmers and appointed Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) workers and local leaders as members of the committee which has been given powers to identify the beneficiaries under the proposed Rs 8,000 incentive per acre to the farmers from 2018.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) working President Bhatti Vikramarka said the GO 39 would only help TRS leaders and they can use it for their political mileage. The GO will not benefit the farmers and others.

TDP State unit President L Ramana alleged that the government order was totally against the Constitution and the TRS government wanted to use it for its political gain in the name of farmers. He also alleged that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was trying to protect the interests of land mafia in the name of land survey.

Telangana JAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram said he would soon organise a meeting in the capital city demanding the withdrawal of GO 39. He said big protest meetings would be held on October 2 in all villages in the State.
