Hyderabad: Amid widespread speculation that Nalgonda Member of Parliament Gutha Sukender Reddy is likely to vacate his seat to take the reins of the State Farmers Coordination Council, the Telugu Desam-TS working president A Revanth Reddy has made no bones about contesting the bypoll, if at all such a situation arises.

Since Gutha, the three-time MP, joined the ruling TRS in June last year, it was always on the cards that he would be given a plum post. Walking a tightrope in terms of Cabinet strength that has already reached the upper limit of 18, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao didn’t enforce any change to accommodate those joined his party in later stages.

Against this backdrop, the TRS government has now got an opportunity to accommodate Gutha as the FACC State convener post equivalent to that of Cabinet rank. In that case, Gutha will have to resign from his MP post, thus necessitating byelection to Nalgonda Lok Sabha seat. It may be noted here that Gutha, who won the Nalgonda seat in 1999 on TDP ticket, 2009 and 2014 on Congress ticket, has a stronghold in the region irrespective of his party affiliation.

Now his elevation to FACC convener is almost certain. Based on reliable sources, all eyes are on Nalgonda byelection. Even though it’s not clear that who would be the nominee of the TRS, the possibility of Revanth Reddy being in the fray for the seat is making waves in political circles.

Responding to a query, Revanth Reddy, who was in Hanamkonda on Friday, said: “I am ready to contest from Nalgonda, if my party high command directs me to do so. Though I originally hail from Achampet constituency, I am representing Kodangal in the Assembly as told by my party.”

Meanwhile, it’s learnt that the TRS government is seeking a legal opinion in the wake of a public interest litigation filed challenging the constitutional validity of GO Ms 39 regarding formation of Farmer Coordination Committees. The government will take a call on constitution of committees in the form of a Corporation or a Cooperative Society, sources said.

Speaking to The Hans India, Gutha Sukender Reddy said: “It’s too early to say about my appointment as the chief of the FACC State committee. Will let you know soon. The government is yet to finalise the modality of the FACC formation.”
