Union Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi interacted with FLO members at Taj Krishna in Banjara Hills recently. The theme for her interaction was “A Paradigm Shift—Super Woman to Super Power”.

Over 300 FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) enthusiastically participated in the programme. In her address lasted over 45 minutes, Maneka said that women empowerment Is like building a wall, it has to be built brick by brick.

“The Women and Child Development Ministry is not a gender-organised ministry. We have got a MoS and Secretary who is a man.” “When men died, wives were not given a succession certificate. We made sure they are inclusive in it so that they can easily claim pensions,” she said.

“I am a woman and scared to go to police station. Then came a thought of why not pushing more women police into the society. It is encouraging. More and more women are getting into police force,” she said.

The idea is to sensitise men police by placing women police along with them “The chances of women being born is greater than a man according to genetics,” she said. “With the Beti Bachao Beti Padavo programme we have set up a new trend by asking people to rename their business/shops for example from 'Gupta and sons to Gupta and daughters'.”

“Hyderabad has registered a staggering improvement in sex ratio from 916 to 946 girls,” she informed. Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Kamini Saraf, Chairperson of FLO Hyderabad said, “This was the most awaited programme which had to be rescheduled, nevertheless, today we have the much-awaited opportunity to interact with Maneka Gandhi, an animal rights activist, environmentalist and an author.”

“Paradigm shift can literally shake the society. People to people transactions are becoming more day by day. According to a research, it has come to light that India’s GDP can be increased by 27% if women actively participate in business activities,” Kamini said Kamini also presented a proposal with the requests they had put forward to the WCD Ministry focused on women empowerment and urged Maneka to review and help implement the change a progressive and safe India would welcome.
