Secunderabad: Believe it or not, Vaastu seems to be a deciding factor of the colour of fish and position of aquarium in a household. According to aquarium traders of Charles’ Street in Regimental Bazaar in Secunderabad, of late the colour of the fish, their number and position of the aquarium have been new Vaastu trend prevailing in the city.

The aquarium and fish market, which is turning 50 years or so now, is the only noted market for aquarium and related stuff in the twin cities. The market has come a long way to take the current shape selling various kinds of fish, aquarium and other ornamental accessories. Though there are such shops in other places in the city, the Charles’ Street road is the most famous for the same.

Earlier, people used to select fish and aquariums of their choice and as per their aesthetic interests. However, it seems Vaastu is playing a key role in selection of fish now.

G Venkateshwarlu, a trader in Charles’ Street, said the craze and love for having an aquarium with colourful fish at homes has not come down over the period of time. He said, rather the choices of people have changed now. “People are selecting the colour of fish and aquariums as per the Vaastu. There are two beliefs in general. As per Vaastu, they buy eight Gold Fish, apart from one black fish. Some buy Flower Horn and Arwana, which are important according to Chinese Vaastu,” said Venkateshwarlu.

He said he had started his shop 49 years ago when there were only three shops in the market and two in Hyderabad. Not only the colour of fish, but the position of aquarium was also decided by priests now, he added. Another trader, Sumith, said earlier it was not the situation.

People used to choose fish as per their wish but of late, the situation was changed. “Now everything is based on what they do to their homes as per Vaastu,” he said.

Most popular fish that are sold in the market are Tiger Shark, Albine Tiger Shark, Gold Fish, Black Moor, Black Molly, Spotted Molly and others. Most of the fish are cultured and very few are marine.
