Hyderabad: Safety girder that supports the railing of rail-over-bridge (RoB) collapsed on Tuesday, injuring a pedestrian when an army truck loaded with heavy machinery was trying to cross the point at Bansilalpet.

During the morning hours, when the Army truck tried to cross beneath the RoB, the safety girder came off. The reason, according to the Mahankali police, is lack of space to pass such a vehicle particularly when heavily loaded.

When the driver of the vehicle tried to underpass, the cabin entered the point, but the machine which was being carried hit the safety girder. While the driver and another passenger escaped unhurt, a pedestrian who was walking there was hit by some stone which felloff due to the impact.

He was rushed to a hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. “As it was in the morning and not many people were present, a major mishap was prevented,” the police said. Because of the heavy morning rush, traffic was disrupted for more than an hour before the traffic police cleared it off. The police clarified that there was no case registered.
