Hyderabad: City techies and corporate employees are plumping for biking as a stress buster. Out of the many bike clubs in the city about 40 per cent of the members are IT (Information Technology) employees. The techies claim that this is the best way they can relieve themselves from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Manish Khandat, Senior Manager at Oracle, said, “Biking is my childhood passion; my father used to have a Royal Enfield and I also own one now. Cruising on a bike to scenic locations is an absolute stress reliever for me because I have a hectic schedule and sometimes even work on weekends. So, when I have long weekends I go on a road trips along with my other biker friends to forget the work tensions.”

Bikers also blend their road trips with photography (popularly known as motography) and music. P Praveen, Manager at Genpact, who recently went on a bike trip to Somasila in Nagarkurnool district, said that it was one of the best trips of his life. “Along with 15 bikers I went on this trip and on the way we witnessed the picturesque landscapes that were enthralling.

Before going on this trip my mom gave me a task, which is to meet her childhood friend (whom she last spoke to 30 years ago), I was lucky to find her and she was thrilled to meet me and I will cherish that moment forever.” He also said, “I meet many people from IT and corporate background. Every time I go on a ride I see around 15 new IT professionals joining the group.”

Some of the employees allege that they can now afford their favourite sports bike that they could not during their college years. Sudhir Akupanti, Subject matter expert (IT services) at Unicef, said, “Usually, software employees have a work history of 10 years to 15 years and in such situations one would want to get out of the closed environment. I like to meet new people and these road trips calm me down.

When I return to work I have a new perspective and feel much relaxed. When asked about safety issues and road accidents, Varun, member of a city biking club, said, “We take all the safety measures need, from helmet and knee pads to biking jackets and gloves, we wear a complete safety gear before going on a road trip. When in groups we even follow line formation.” He further added that they do not encourage amateurs in their club.
