Secunderabad: Early hour showers proved to be a bane for the traffic movement in many parts of Secunderabad on Wednesday choking many important routes. From Karkhana to Jubilee Bus Station, there was a huge traffic jam and similar traffic problems were witnessed in Begumpet and R P Road.

Routine business activities in many parts of the city were hit due to the rains. Many people complained of ill-management of vehicular traffic by the Traffic police. Several people were in a hurry to complete their bank transactions on Wednesday since it is a holiday on Thursday. However, rains played the spoilsport. Banks will be closed on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Fareed from Afzal Gunj said that he could not reach the Bank in time and complete his work following the rains in the early hours and due to traffic jam. He said, ``Neither I could do it in the morning nor in the evening and rains, coupled with traffic jam, spoiled the entire day.”

In most of the places, water logging and un-attended pot holes played spoilsports and resulted in traffic jams. The claims of GHMC officials to clear the water logging points immediately, proved wrong and vehicles could not move for a long time.

Traffic moved with a snail’s speed from Patny Junction to Begumpet and towards Punjagutta for two to three hours in the morning. Though the schools and other educational institutionswere already closed following the Dasara holidays, the heavy traffic jam affected the daily activities.

The large traffic jams across many important routes of Secunderabad affected Bus commuters, bikers and people travelling in four wheelers equally.

Naresh Kumar, a lab technician from Secunderabad who uses public transport, said that he was stuck near Secunderabad Railway Station for one hour and could not reach Begumpet before two hours of strenuous journey.

He said, ``It was not because of rains but because of bad management of traffic by the Traffic cops. Many road junctions lacked required number of traffic cops from Secunderabad Railway Station to Patny and R P Road.”

Rain hit for the second time in the evening and resulted again in traffic jams in many other areas. Traffic came to a standstill near Bata, Bansilalpet and Rani Gunj area for a long time giving a tough time for people moving on these routes.

Secunderabad witnessed the highest rain fall on Wednesday (31.8 mm), Musheerabad (21.8 mm), Begumpet (15.5 mm), Asifnagar (15.0 mm), Malkajigiri (14.0 mm), Tirumalagiri (14 mm) and Srinagar colony (12.5 mm).
