Hyderabad: Congress party workers held grand celebrations of their party's victory in Nanded-Waghala Municipal Corporation (NWMC) election on Thursday.

GHCC Minorities Department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, TPCC General Secretary Prem Lal and Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin and several party workers assembled at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday and distributed sweets and burst crackers.

Speaking to media persons later, Abdullah Sohail congratulated the Congress leader of Nanded, especially former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for winning 71 out of 81 seats. He said the victory of Congress party clearly indicates the return of secular forces to power. He said people of Nanded have completely rejected the AIMIM which has been acting as a secret ally of BJP since a long time. He said MIM helped BJP win several elections by dividing the secular votes. "Despite serious attempts and a high profile campaign by MIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi, MIM has failed to distract secular voters who defeated both the BJP and its partner MIM," he said.

Abdullah Sohail, who along with other leaders of Telangana Congress campaigned for party candidates in Nanded, said MIM's defeat in Nanded was just the beginning. "We will keep exposing MIM's secret ties with BJP and would not allow them to spread their tentacles further. MIM will meet the same fate in next general elections in Telangana, especially in the Old City of Hyderabad," he said.
