New Delhi: Telangana government is using a novel way of promoting its handlooms with the Centre. This Diwali, it has decided to gift 'Ikat' sarees and sherwanis to Union Ministers and senior bureaucrats in Delhi. By doing so, the state government intends to popularise the “warp and weft” of Telangana ‘cheneta’.

The state government, which has studied extensively the neglect of the handloom sector in Telangana, has made it a point to revive the industry and also to restore its past glory. Principal Resident Commissioner of Telangana Aravind Kumar has been tasked with the job of promoting the handloom treasure trove of Telangana.

The aesthetically packed in jute bags the Pochampally 'Ikat' saree and sherwani gift hampers, which are presented to the officials and ministers, are earning appreciation from all.

Aravind Kumar is said to be explaining to them the history of weaving in Telangana and the beauty of the patterns as also the efforts of the government to promote the industry not only in the state but also in the country and abroad, it is learnt. He is also seeking their cooperation in promoting the industry.
