Hyderabad: The government has decided to lay roads connecting main towns of 31 districts in the State through the ‘Telangana Rahadarula Abhivriddhi Karyakramam’ (TRAK) programme. There will be a Telangana Golden Garland, ring roads and North South and East West Corridors connecting the entire State.

Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Wednesday had a detailed review on the road development programmes in the State. The Minister said the R&B Department would bring changes in the Act for providing road connectivity through Road Development Corporation (RDC). A draft Bill will be introduced in the next Assembly session, he added.

Nageswara Rao said the RDC would take up external aided projects and other State flagship projects through public private partnership (PPP) mode. A banking consortium would be formed that would be led by Vijaya Bank.

He also said Rs 600 crore was released for important road development projects in the State. The Minister said the plans would be prepared by the R&B and LEA Associates Consulting for developing roads at main roadways through TRAK. The plans would also be prepared for laying 2,000 km of road network through Strategic Options Study (SOS), he added.

The entire State will be provided connectivity through various roads including the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad, Regional Ring Roads, National Highways, NHDP North-South Corridor, North-South and East West Corridor, radial roads and Golden Garland. Under the scheme, 5,107 km ring roads, corridors and radial roads will be developed. On the whole, the roads proposed under TRAK connecting 31 districts will be 3,963 km.

Under TRAK scheme, 425 mandals in 30 districts will get road facility and will provide connectivity to 164 industrial clusters. Under TRAK there are proposals for connecting 87 tourist places and 91 agricultural markets.

The Minister said there would be plans to have good connectivity with the five neighbouring States. After connecting all the places in the State through TRAK scheme, it would help in achieving social development and Bangaru Telangana, said Nageswara Rao. He further said that this scheme would be discussed with the Chief Minister once again to see that the scheme is implemented from December onwards.

Stating that the State budget would not be sufficient for a vast project like this, the Minister said that there was a proposal to have State Road Fund. He said that the funds would be generated with the suggestions and approval of the Chief Minister.
