Hyderabad: There are no takers for the controversial nala widening works in the city. Even some of the tenders called by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have already been finalised. The GHMC officials even complained that the town planning officials and Deputy Commissioners are not co-operating for the drive.
According to GHMC officials, the civic body had decided to clear 47 critical bottlenecks covering a distance of 365 km. The GHMC has conducted a comprehensive survey and identified as many as 1,000 unauthorised and authorised structures to be demolished.
The civic body has estimated Rs 230 crore towards both demolition and paying of compensation. The GHMC has been inviting tenders for the 47 bottle necks since July but finalised the tenders for only 23 places and at remaining places not even a bidder participated in the auction even after inviting tender repeatedly for five times.
A senior GHMC official told The Hans India here on Tuesday that even though tenders were finalised at 23 locations, the town planning ground level staff and local political leaders have not been co-operating with the officials turning a blind eye to the instructions of Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister K Taraka Rama Rao. He said that the private agencies finalised for nala widening works have been sitting idle for several days due to the public revolt reportedly provoked by the local leaders.
Furthermore, the GHMC official said that the town planning officials and revenue officials did not have the official records of nala has been causing the delay of nala widening. The officials also said that the ground level staff hand in glove with the property owners have misleading the nala parameters causing major inconvenience to the GHMC staff as public got into confrontation at several locations. He said that even though the issue has been taken to notice of zonal and deputy commissioner they are yet to respond.
