New Delhi: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is contemplating to complete shortlisting of candidates for the next elections way ahead of other parties so that it could release the candidates’ list at least three months ahead of the next general elections. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has changed the political gear to launch the party into an election mode recently, is said to be keen on stealing a march ahead of others in the electoral battle.

The Chief Minister is convinced that the Centre would not undertake delimitation of the Assembly segments as promised in the AP Reorganization Act, 2014. Hence, he does not want to be caught fidgeting in the last moment and is gearing himself up to pick the candidates well in time to sort out the problems related with candidate selection later.

Being a shrewd politician, KCR is fully aware of the problems in preparing the list as several leaders have joined his party from the Opposition impressed by his work for the development of Telangana.
He is also aware of the fact that some of the MLAs have turned out to be non-performing assets and need to be replaced. He is said to be evaluating the performance of the MLAs and ministers closely and is sure to shun the deadwood in the next contest. Secondly, the early list gives him ample time to handle dissidence if any and also keep an eye on the Opposition flock to poach those who matter.

In case the Centre keeps its word and does resort to delimitation, his job gets simpler anyway as he would be in a position to accommodate as many. However, keeping in view the reiterations of the Centre, especially the Union Home Ministry in this regard, there is little chance of the Centre allowing delimitation of the Assemblies of the Telugu states ahead of its due date.

The Congress, on the other hand, is roping in the support of the TDP leaders "to strengthen the party" that could backfire anytime. The haste displayed by it in reportedly assuring such newbies - vis a vis the Congress leaders - of tickets in the next elections is not going to go down well with the party leadership or cadre, seniors in the party admit here. It could stoke a largescale dissidence. That is another advantage KCR has in releasing the list early as he could, then, tap into the discomfiture of the Opponent.
