Hyderabad: An MRPS activist collapsed and lost her life here, during a protest for demanding categorisation of Scheduled Castes, here at the Hyderabad Collectorate. After she fell unconscious, she was immediately rushed to Osmania Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The victim was identified as Bharti, a resident of Addagutta in Secunderabad. After the Assembly which is in session was informed of the woman’s death, Chief Minister K Chandra Shekhar Rao described the incident as most unfortunate and said that, he would send a petition signed by all the opposition leaders seeking an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue of SC reservation categorization to the Centre.

The Chief Minister also announced Rs 25 lakhs ex gratia to the kin of the deceased and also declared a job would be provided to the deceased’s child.CLP leader K Jana Reddy sparked a discussion in the house, saying that activist died due to lathi charge by the police, and that a probe should be ordered into it.

Finance Minister E Rajender clarified that the activist died due to fits and not due to lathi charge. Later, when the Speaker asked Kishan Reddy to resume the discussion on ‘Updation of land records’, he requested the Speaker to adjourn the session. The zero Hour was adjourned for 15 minutes.

When the house reassembled, the Chief Minister made a statement on the activist’s death. Later the opposition leaders, which included Jana Reddy (Congress), Kishan Reddy (BJP), Pasha Quadri (MIM), Sandra Venkata Veeraiah (TTDP), Sunnam Rajaiah (CPM) urged the speaker to adjourn the session till Tuesday, as it was not the right time to discuss other matters. The Speaker then adjourned the Assembly till Tuesday.
