Following the arson on the campus of the Satyabhama University in Chennai over the alleged suicide of a first year engineering student, the authorities have announced vacations till January 2.

The decision was taken after students of the University went on a rampage and set the hostel properties on fire. The angry students even blocked the fire tenders who attempted to douse the fire. With the violence getting out of hand, police were deployed in large numbers on the campus to control the situation and to prevent further escalation of violence.

In view of the incident, the security has been beefed up around the area and students have been asked to leave the campus.

Radha Mounika, a first-year computer engineering student committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room in the university on Wednesday.

A native of Hyderabad, the girl was learned to be caught committing examination malpractice in her internal examinations on Monday and was barred from appearing for the other examinations.

Feeling insulted, Radha Mounika hanged herself in her room leaving a suicide note that said, "Love You All. Miss You All."

Meanwhile, the students of Sathyabama University claimed that Radha Mounika was a brilliant student and there was no way she would resort to malpractice in the examination adding that the girl was humiliated by the university staff.
