However, JAC leaders were detained at the Old City TRS office and shifted to police stations in the division.

Police arrested CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, state leaders of BJP, TRS, Congress and other parties for trying to come out in the form of a rally, which was planned to be taken out from Charminar to Shah Ali Banda.

The Falaknuma Metro Rail stretch has been in the lurch ever since objections were raised over it questioning its viability.

Speaking on the occasion, JAC leader Rasheed Shareef said that the purpose of the agitation was to pressurise the authorities of HMRL to begin works on Old City Metro Rail. He said that the proposed route would have been a reality by this time, had local leaders not opposed it.

He said that people were ready to give their properties for Metro Rail and religious structures would not be affected if the planned line comes.

CPI leader E T Narasimha said that police detained them though they did not indulge in any violent act rather the agitation rally was peaceful. He said that JAC raised a reasonable voice of the people.

He said that when other parts of Hyderabad were developed, Old City should not be ignored for a few people and that the Metro Rail was the need-of-the-hour in this area.Meanwhile, Traffic was diverted for some time when police personnel surrounded the JAC leaders near Mir Alam Mandi.
