Hyderabad: The Kaleshwaram project in Telangana is all set to get required clearances by January next from Central Water Commission (CWC) under Union ministry of Water Resources. The project has already been given environmental and Forest stage-1 and stage -2 clearances by the Union ministry of Environment and Forests recently.

It is also mandatory to seek permission from CWC. It will give its final nod to irrigation planning and cost appraisal based on the documents submitted the State government, according to officials. Top officials of the Irrigation Department said the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the CWC would hold meeting in the first week of January and discuss the cost economics of the project with the officials concerned from State and Union government.

The CWC is overseeing 18 Directorates which already approved the project. Hydrological clearances from Hydrological Department, Inter-State and Groundwater Directorates were important wings of the Commission. Financial feasibility report and economic benefits to the people under the project were explained in detail in the report, officials said. The TAC would analyse the report at the meeting.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has already entrusted a group of irrigation officials with the responsibility of pursuing the issue seriously and clarify the doubts, if any, to the Committee at the meeting to be held in New Delhi.

Once the CWC granted all clearances, the State government will be allowed to seek financial assistance from the Union government and also other external funding agencies, including World Bank at lowest interest rates. The Kaleshwaram project has been taken up at the cost of Rs 40,000 crore. The government has already sought nearly Rs 10,000 crore loans from the scheduled banks. The State government is planning to go in for huge barrowings from the funding agencies next year to complete the entire project by the end of 2018 as directed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

As the Centre granted environmental and Forest clearances, the government has speed up the construction of the project. The works pertaining to irrigation component will be taken up on a war footing as the government has decided to provide irrigation water by next Kharif season in North Telangana district. Canals and distributary works between Medigadda and Mid Maneru on 200 km stretch will be completed by June next, official said.
