Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit president K Laxman said it was disheartening to note that Telangana’s premier institution Osmania University admitted its inability to organise the prestigious 105th Indian Science Congress (ISC).

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said it was painful to note that the State government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao have not been interested in making necessary arrangements for the prestigious meeting in Osmania University.

He stated that the meeting, which was scheduled to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was cancelled by the State government with mala fide intention. The deceitful intention of the State government to not go ahead with the scheduled programme citing security reasons is evident from the fact that the same government could host the recently concluded Global Entrepreneurship Summit and the World Telugu Conference without a single untoward incident, he said.

He said by cancelling the Science Congress meet, the State government had lost an opportunity to raise the name and fame of the prestigious University and thus, inflicted an insult on the people of Telangana including the intellectuals and the students’ communities as well. The BJP demanded that the State government not intervene in the administration of the academic institutions’ activities and give freedom to raise the performance bar of the institutions. The Chief Minister owes an explanation to the students, intellectuals and the people of the State for cancellation of the Science congress, he said.
