“We are geo-tagging the houses of all the 2.18 lakhs of criminals to know their activities round-the-clock. We are also documenting their crime records so that it could be shared with all the police stations through Crime Data Analytics of the TSCOP mobile application.

The DGP made a visit to Habeebnagar, Madhapur and Saroornagar police stations in the city to supervise the progress of the survey. Speaking to reporters on the occasion, he said that the movement of criminals would be monitored very closely from now on. This would help the police know if they continue to commit crimes or if they had reformed themselves. “The government is ready to help those who want to reform themselves.

There will be a controlled surveillance on them,” the DGP said. Expressing happiness over the way 250 repeat offenders were tamed in Mangar Basti at Afzal Sagar, Mahender Reddy said that after police helped them in rehabilitation, they had promised to give up their past practices. “We wish to bring in greater change through the process and make the neighbourhoods much safer,” he added.

According to City Commissioner V V Srinivasa Rao there are about 40,000 criminals in the city, which include natives of about 30,000, while remaining offenders who committed crime were outside of Telangana and are residing here. The officials of Cyberabad police commissionerate informed that there were about 20,000 criminals in their jurisdiction.

In the entire Madhapur zone there are 6,000 criminals, while in Madhapur police station limits there are 454. In Gachibowli police station limits there are 232 criminals. Kukatpally and KPHB together have more than 2,000 criminals. Rachakonda Commissioner M Mahesh Bhagwat informed that there were a total of 19,285 criminals, of whom the process of geo tagging was completed in respect of 15,701.
