Maoists stepped up activity in Bhadrachalam- Kothagudem district’s Agency areas on Friday night and gunned down a tribal farmer in Veerapuram panchayat limits on charges of acting as a police informer. They fired at another tribal under Janampet panchayat limits and caused injuries to his hand.

Pinapaka (Kothagudem): Maoists stepped up activity in Bhadrachalam- Kothagudem district’s Agency areas on Friday night and gunned down a tribal farmer in Veerapuram panchayat limits on charges of acting as a police informer. They fired at another tribal under Janampet panchayat limits and caused injuries to his hand.

Also, they set fire to four lorries, two tractors and two proclainers after dousing them in petrol. In the tribal hamlet of Umesh Chandra Nagar in Veerapuram panchayat of Pinapaka mandal, a group of 20 Maoists struck around midnight at the house of Todem Jangaiah (40), who practices Podu cultivation, and shot him dead.

Later, they proceeded to Sundaraiah Nagar, tribal hamlet in Janampet panchayat, 8 km away from Veerapuram.They fired at Madivi Ramesh (35). He survived the incident with injuries to his hand. Last year the Maoists attacked him.

Later, they proceeded to Bhupatiraopeta, 2 km away from Sundaraiah Nagar, and set fire to many vehicles at a sand quarry. They huddled the quarry workers at one place and issued severe warning to them and later let them off. However, they took two of them along with them till they crossed River Godavari and let them off.
