With the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) deciding to set up bus shelters with a modern look and improvised facilities is also planning WiFi enabled shelters at 12 different locations in the city.

Based on the feedback from the public, the GHMC officials are in the process of adding new facilities.

826 bus shelters are being set up in the city which has been categorised into four grade - advanced bus shelters, proficient bus shelters, basic bus shelters, and minimal bus shelters.

Based on size and facilities provided at bus shelters, they will be equipped with toilets for men and women, WiFi, water dispensing units, mobile charging points, surveillance cameras and other facilities apart from the seating and a provision on passenger information system.

Amongst the 826 bus shelters, 430 new bus shelters are being constructed at new locations while the 396 existing shelters will be modernised and the cost of each bus shelter ranges from Rs 90,000 to over Rs 2 lakh.

Having faced criticism over the lack of shelters from the commuters, the GHMC have finalised the locations for new shelters in association with TSRTC officials and the efforts are being intensified with the summer fast approaching.

The prototype locations include -

– Padmavathi Plaza, KPHB

– Near Pushpak, Shilparamam

– Towards Liberty, Tank Bund

– Road No 2, Banjara Hills

– Near St Ann’s School, SP Road

– Khairtabad RTA

– Seven Tombs, Shaikpet

– Grammar School, Abids

– Sudarshan theatre, RTC crossroads

– Secretariat Bus Bay

– Jubilee Checkpost

– Raidurgam
