Hyderabad: Expelled Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S A Sampath met Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat on Wednesday and requested permission to participate in the Rajya Sabha polls.

They met the CEC under the leadership of chairman of TPCC Election Commission Coordination Committee Marri Shashidhar Reddy. The delegation included party leaders G Niranjan and Syam also.

They said names of Venkat Reddy and Sampath figured in the voters list of MLAs on the last date of nominations and scrutiny. List of MLAs is prepared under Section 152 of the Representation of People Act. They alleged that the secretary of the Assembly, as the Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha election, removed their names without permission of the Election Commission.

This action of the Returning Officer is unbecoming of a government employee much less that of a Returning Officer, who has to act only under the authority of the Election Commission, the said.
