Demanding the disqualification of seven Congress MLAs who have voted in favour of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidates in Rajya Sabha elections on Friday, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and party whip Rammohan Reddy met assembly speaker S Madhusudhana Chary in this regard.

Congress won 19 seats in 2014 assembly elections and later seven MLAs joined TRS couple of years later.

Meanwhile, an independent MLA Donthi Madhava Reddy and TDP MLA Revanth Reddy joined Congress.

Now, the party has issued a whip to all the MLAs who joined TRS.

Of the total three seats for the Rajya Sabha polls, four candidates are in the fray. TRS fielded Joginipally Santosh Kumar, B Lingaiah Yadav and Banda Prakash Mudiraj as its candidates while Congress fielded former MP Balaram Naik.

Considering the number of MLAs, the ruling TRS is expected to bag all the three seats. On the other hand, BJP and TDP have decided to stay away from the elections. The polling began at 9 am on Friday and will continue till 4 pm. Counting of votes will be taken up at 5 pm.
