Khairatabad: To discuss the sustainable ways to preserve water a seminar was held by the Institution of Engineers (IEI) Telangana state centre on Thursday. The event was entitled “Nature for Water” to find natural, sustainable and eco friendly ways to utilise and preserve water.

Various officials and policy makers from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board HMWSSB; Indian Water Works Association, Hyderabad Centre Water Management Forum and Osmania University were brought together to speak about nature based water management solutions which can help to rebalance the natural water cycle.

President of Foundation Of Futuristic Cities Karuna Gopal spoke about green economy and its implications. She said “unlike India the developed countries have economic models to preserve their natural resources.

The countries which suffer from scarcity of water like Qatar have also found sustainable desalination procedures unlike cities in India, where there is availability of water, but still the water profile in Hyderabad is in worst shape running in hourly supply chain, very bad billing and collection system. Hyderabad must institute scientific study with economic approach towards water conservation, supply and to do this the city has to learn to utilize the funds, namely the smart city fund and Amrut fund which was sanctioned years ago by the government’.

Other speakers had their own assessment of the situation. Rameshwar Rao Secretary of IEI Telangana state said “If sewerage, garbage and chemical waste is away from water, half of the problem would be solved and rainwater harvesting can save the future’. The Chairman of IEI S Satyanarayana said “Future wars would be for water as there is lot of latent water wastage for in household and irrigation sectors which should be controlled”.

G L Rao IEI former president said” water has become precious due to scarcity water is divine and it shall be respected and protected”. The sewage workers from the different locations of the city were offered shawls and bouquets by the speakers.
