Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Monday wrote a letter to Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari seeking installation of a telemetry system in order to avoid confusion on the usage of Krishna water by both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Citing large-scale irregularities in the release of Krishna waters, he urged the Centre to direct Central Water Commission (CWC) and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to be impartial.

Questioning the delay in implementing the telemetry mechanism by the centre even after being proposed, Harish Rao said that difficulties are arising in evaluating the actual usage by AP and Telangana with the Krishna River flowing in the common border of both the states, leading to conflict.

He urged for a robust telemetry system to be put in place by 2019.
