Hyderabad: This school in Malakpet for specially-abled caters to all round development of the kids besides schooling. Cutting across religious lines, about hundred students get trained daily under expert supervision for their bright future.

Being run by Ideal Information Centre for Disabled (IICD), as part of social project by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, the Ideal School for Deaf has been running for several years to cater the educational needs of the 'Deaf and Dumb' students from Nursery to class IIX (registered by Govt). About 70 students are currently enrolled in the school being run in Azampura area in Malakpet, with hostel facilities.

One of the noted features of the school is that the teachers who imparts education are also specially abled, who daily visit the school to teach the students not only regular education, but also computers. “We make them learn job oriented courses, so that they can easily get selected in competitive exams conducted by the government, besides moral education. Special training is also provided after notifications appear,” said Syed Tabrez Bakshi, IICD secretary.

Centre for blind

A similar centre is also run by IICD for blind where about 20 students learn in Braille at its centre in Mehdipatnam. Similar to the 'deaf and dumb', the students here also learn computers and other job oriented courses. Both the centres run weekly programmes for socialising, which remains one of the major activity conducted for the meeting each other.

Specially abled from outside these Centres also attend to interact or learn new things on the occasion. “One of the major activity we conduct for these students is Iftar party during Ramazan, which is attended by specially abled in hundreds and has been a success for some years,” explained the secretary.

The rare programme which is one of its kind conducted by IICD is organising Du-ba-Du Matrimonial Alliance Program for these specially abled so that it becomes easier for them to find their soul-mate. Tabrez explained that it is one of the important social works being taken up by the Centre apart from helping the specially abled learn skills like tailoring, arts and craft, mobile repair work and mehdi-designing.

“We hope that these youngsters do attend a regular school and for early detection of any abnormality we are also coming up with lab, with equipment of speech therapy, psycho therapy and audio therapy in the coming days,” added IICD secretary.
