Mosaic, exhibition of rare photographs begins at OU

Hyderabad: ‘Mosaic’, five-day exhibition of rare photographs organised by the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Osmania University, got off to a colourful start here on Saturday. The event marks the closing ceremony of the year-long Centenary Celebrations to be concluded on April 25.

Prof S Ramachandram, Vice Chancellor, Osmania University, inaugurated the exhibition, which showcased about 250 photographs covering rare pictures taken at the time of construction of Arts College and other buildings, Vice Chancellors who served the University over the years, various colleges, etc.

Some of the photographs have been sourced from Nizam’s Museum and are on display under the title ‘Peep into the Past’. The majestic Arts College with a splendid display of interiors is a visual treat. The photographs covering Women’s College depict some rare facets of the historic buildings there. The various colleges and departments have been slotted under ‘Infrastructure development’. Some rare pictures sent by overseas friends are also on display, as are pictures clicked by students of the Department of Journalism.

A separate enclosure captures the life and times of Raj Gonds in Adilabad district in pictures shot by S Harpal Singh, research scholar, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication. Visitors are also guided to a museum on the social life of tribal, set up under the guidance of legendary anthropologist Christoph von Fuerer Haimendorf and sociologist S C Dube in the Department of Sociology.

Vice Chancellor expressed his happiness and complimented the Department for its efforts. Registrar Prof Ch Gopal Reddy, Officer on Special Duty Prof T Krishna Rao, Arts College Principal Prof D Ravinder and other senior faculty members and officials were also present. The exhibition is open to all and can be visited between 9 am and 6 pm from April 21 to April 25.
