Hyderabad: The number of MBBS seats in Telangana will go up by 300 from this academic year (2018-19). The Medical Council of India has recommended to the Centre for issuing permission to a few new medical colleges (government and private) as well as increasing intake in some colleges in various states.

Among the 17 new colleges, the MCI gave nod for Government Medical College in Siddipet (150 seats) and Ayaan Institute of Medical Sciences (150 seats), a private minority institution to come up in Ranga Reddy district.

At present, the total number of MBBS seats in all colleges in the state this year is 3,700. With the fresh decision, the seats will touch the 4,000 mark. Also, the number of government medical colleges in Telangana will increase to seven with the addition of Siddipet Medical College.

While the neighboring AP did not get any approval for new colleges, 100 MBBS seats were increased in total in two private colleges-NRI Academy of Sciences, Guntur (increased from 150 to 200 ), while in Great Eastern Medical School and Hospital, Srikakulam (from 100 to 150 seats).
