Telangana government has begun efforts to free the state from the use of plastic in a phased manner. As a first,  Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar  issued guidelines for limiting plastic usage in all urban local bodies in the state.

Telangana government has begun efforts to free the state from the use of plastic in a phased manner. As a first, Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar issued guidelines for limiting plastic usage in all urban local bodies in the state.

The official directed all Municipal authorities to strictly implement the ban on using plastic in government offices. It may be recalled that the Minister for Municipal Administration Mr K T Rama Rao has directed to issue clear instructions to all the commissioners across the state to curb the plastic menace.

He asked the officials to discontinue usage and ban stocking of single use plastic items such as drinking water in plastic and tetra bottles, single use straws, plastic/Styrofoam tea cups/ containers, plastic below 50 micron plastic or plastic coated items and any other forms of single use /banned plastic.

From now onwards, no office shall be found to be in use or possession of below 50 micron plastic bags as mandated in Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. Furthermore, it is mandated that all offices follow twin bin system and dispose plastic waste strictly in compliance of Solid Waste Management Rules,2000 and guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board towards plastic disposal informed a press release. The orders will come into force with immediate effect.
