NIMS oncology block gets corporate makeover

Hyderabad: The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Oncology department has now got a corporate makeover. Also, a 45-new paying rooms’ (twin sharing and single sharing basis) facility with an additional bed for attendant is now complete and ready for inauguration. In what can be termed as a fine example of corporate social responsibility, the Megha Group that is into infrastructure projects in both the Telugu speaking states came forward to fund the project.
Narrating the genesis of the project, NIMS Director Dr K Manohar said the idea took root when a former PG student brought to the notice of the group and they took it further. In a matter of just a year, the block has been transformed. Work started last year in the month of May. Dr G Sadashivudu, head of the department, medical oncology, said, “We never imagined that the place would be turned around to such an extent.
Cancer patients are prone to infections and now the survival rate would definitely improve several notches as the ward has all the facilities.” He further said, “The newly constructed oncology block would be used for treatment of in-patients while the existing one on the ground floor and below would be used for treatment of out-patients. The state-of-the-art construction spread over 18,000 sq ft has separate wards for male, female, kids, leukemia patients, ICU along with one isolation room with a total of 50 beds.”
These wards are equipped with centralised AC. Also, doctors, resident doctors and nurses have also been given separate rooms, enclosures and working stations.
Spacious and separate washrooms to take a bath also and CCTVs in corridors are some of the distinct facilities. Another significant addition to NIMS is the swanky paying rooms being readied for patients, who are willing to pay for comfortable stay. The paying rooms will have hot water facility from solar water heaters, television, split AC, bed side lockers, chairs along with flooring and side-walls on par with deluxe and luxury rooms available corporate hospitals. The rooms have come up at fourth, fifth and sixth floors in the NIMS trauma building block. Forty-five similar rooms were inaugurated by Health Minister Laxma Reddy around the same time last year.
