Congress leader among 5 arrested

Miryalguda (Nalgonda): Police arrested Miryalguda town Congress president Karim in connection with honour killing of a Dalit youth Pranay, whose last rites were performed in the presence of Dalit and political leaders on Sunday. Pranay last rites were performed after his brother, Ajay Kumar, who is pursuing medicine in Ukraine reached Miryalguda town.

Large number of people, including relatives, friends of the deceased and also leaders and activists of various political parties and Dalit organisations attended the funeral ceremony. Police, meanwhile, suspected involvement of Old City rowdy sheeter in Pranay’s murder. Police opined that Rs 10 lakh was paid to the offender, whereas Congress party town working president Karim’s friend, Kasim, played a mediator between Amrutha’s father Tirunagari Maruthi Rao and the attacker.

Police took Karim into their custody. So far, the police have taken five persons into their custody, including Amrutha’ father Maruthi Rao, her uncle Shravan Kumar, Karim and other two accused. As per sources, two police parties were constituted to search for the criminal who attacked Pranay with country made sword outside the Jyothi Hospital in the town on Friday noon.

Miryalguda DSP Srinivas informed that police were investigating the case from all angles. Along with SC, ST Atrocities Act, other sections going to be slapped on the accused, he added. He revealed that as many as eight persons were involved in Pranay’s brutal murder.
