Hyderabad: Save the Young Heart, an initiative striving to prevent heart ailments in youth is being run for the last 3 years in Hyderabad by cardiac surgeon Dr Anand Agarwal. Dr Agarwal, a senior cardiothoracic surgeon at Malla Reddy Narayana multispecialty hospital, has two decades of experience in cardiac surgery.

As part of the campaign, a 2nd edition of 5K run is being organised at Kaitalapur ground in Kukatpally at 5:30 am on September 30. The aim of the campaign is to create awareness about the incidences of coronary artery disease in the youth. Dr Agarwal says he has to operate on a lot of patients in the age group of 30-40 years. The reason for this exponential increase in heart disease is because of the earlier onset of diabetes, hypertensions and disordered life style.

This 5k-run is an attempt to create awareness about walking and running to keep fit and avoid heart diseases. The run is being co-sponsored by Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Orbicular Pharma, P Satyanarayana and son jewellers, Sailotech, Carsonics, Mallareddy Narayana multispecialty hospitals and Areteans.
