Visakhapatnam girl Chandini Chowdary, who made her tinsel town debut with the damp squib ‘Ketugadu’ last year, is playing the leading lady in director Vara Mullapudi’s long-delayed ‘Kundanapu Bomma’.

The likes of K Raghavendra Rao and MM Keeravani are associated with project as presenter and composer respectively. Chandini points out that it was her indie film ‘Madhuram’ that played a part in getting her ‘Kundanapu Bomma’.

“When I was offered the film in the first half of 2014, I was still doing my engineering, so I couldn’t say yes to it initially. But as the makers took time to work on the script, they approached me again in late 2014. Since I completed my studies by then, I said yes this time,” she recalls, smiling.

She continues, “Even before I heard the script, the names associated with the project lured me into it. Who wouldn’t want to associate with K Raghavendra Rao, Keeravani and Vara Mullapudi for their first film?”

She plays a village belle Suchi in the film. “She is the only daughter of village head Mahadev Raju (played by Naginnedu) and so, is pampered a lot. She is a girl with swagger but has a great heart, is sensitive and emotional. She has her own set of issues and how Gopi (Sudhakar), her brother-in-law and Vasu (Sudheer) resolve them is what the film all about. The entire narrative centres on Suchi.”

Up next, Chandini is excited about her next feature, ‘Manu’ in which she is cast opposite Brahmanandam’s son Raja Gautham. ‘Madhuram’ director Phanindra Narsetti is the director. “It will roll in July. It’s a dark film bereft of songs and is unlike what our audiences have seen,” promises the actress, who is almost done with Rahul Ravindran’s yet-untitled next with Revan Yadav.
