Hanamkonda: All is set for the first International Kite Festival to be held here on Tuesday. The event will be organised at University Arts and Science College grounds, Subedari in Hanamkonda. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the event at the grounds.

A ‘Heritage Walk’ is conducted on Monday to promote the event. Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhasker has flagged off the walk at Public Gardens in Hanamkonda and the walk concluded at the college grounds.

GWMC Mayor N Narender, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, Warangal Urban District Collector Amrapali Kata, Municipal Commissioner Shruti Ojha, KUDA Chairman M Yadava Reddy, councillor Boda Dinna and others took part in the walk.

The walkers associations of Public Gardens and Arts College have also joined the walk. Following the walk, the MLA, Mayor and the officials have flown the kites along with the walkers’ association members.

Speaking on the occasion, District Collector Amrapali Kata informed the presspersons that about 50 kite flyers from around 31 countries will be arriving in Warangal to take part in the event.

The main kite festival takes place from 10 am to 1.30 pm, during which the visiting kite flyers will show case their skills.

Cultural programmes also will be organised as part of the kite festival. Nearly 50 stalls displaying products like handloom clothes and others will be put up at the college grounds marking the event.

Commissioner of Police Sudheer Babu informed that elaborate bandobust arrangements are being made at the college in view of the festival.

Kite flying has been a part of Telangana culture since ages and hence local youth shall turn up in large numbers to witness the event, he noted.

MLA Vinay Bhasker speaking to presspersons has thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Tourism Minister A Chandulal and Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation Chairman P Ramulu for their efforts in conducting the international kite festival in Warangal for the first time.

He said the State government has been working on a five-point formula in developing Warangal a as an international city. Efforts are on promote the city as a spiritual, cultural, sports, heritage and tourism hub, he noted.

The MLA has asked the citizens to receive the visiting kite flyers and tourists cordially and attend the event in large numbers to make the event a grand success.

Mayor Narender also appealed the youth in the city to turn up at the event during morning hours. The local kite flyers will display their skills during 3 pm to 5 pm.
